LOSTWITHIEL'S deputy mayor has had a haircut with a difference.

Pam Jarrett has decided to celebrate her 50th birthday doing something that is a 'little mad'.

The deputy mayor of Lostwithiel spent a few hours in the stylist's chair of Bodmin College Hair Salon as the students set about producing a style that seemed more apt to have been carried out by a gardener.

Mrs Jarrett had her long locks cropped before then having a green hair dye applied and the finished article dotted with flowers.

Mrs Jarrett said: "About 15 years ago I saw an advert on a bus shelter, this woman had a grass head – it wasn't her hair but it was like the grass was actually on her head with daisies growing, and I thought that looks fantastic and that I'm going to do that one day.

"I was reminded of it again recently and decided I'm going to do it for my 50th birthday as an excuse to do something mad."

But, as well as hoping to raise a few smiles, Mrs Jarrett is also hoping to raise funds for the Lostwithiel Skate Park Project.

The project received a huge cash boost back in February when Sports England presented them with a grant of £50,000, but with more funds to be raised, Mrs Jarrett, is keen to help the local community-driven group.

"Obviously with the skatepark happening on the field it just seemed a chance to raise a bit of money," she added, "I don't know the total yet but sponsorship forms have gone out all over the place so hopefully it'll add something to the funds.

"The only thing is I just hope we don't have any sort of special activities to do council-wise in the next few weeks."

Has the Cornish Guardian become the newsletter for this person? Surely there is more happening in Lostwithiel than the Deputy Mayor/Vice Chairperson of Community Centre and her upcoming birthday party.
