A FORMER pupil of Newquay's Tretherras secondary school has been named Cornwall College's Apprentice of the Year.

Andrew Gasiorowski, who works in IT at Brannel School, collected his trophy at the college's Excellence in Business Training Awards.

Andrew was praised for showing his commitment to the scheme by completing it ten months ahead of schedule, even though he was also undertaking an additional part-time job to supplement the income from his apprenticeship.

In his speech Andrew thanked Brannel School's former head of IT services, Mark Braham, for supporting him in his apprenticeship.

Mr Braham, who is now the director of IT and media services at Newquay Tretherras, said: "Andrew is one of the most successful apprentices I've had the pleasure of working with.

"This award is something Andy deserves and has fully earned.

"While the academic landscape will always evolve and offer broader choices for learners, it's important not to lose sight of other options."

Newquay Tretherras currently offers six apprentice schemes.
