WADEBRIDGE was put on flood alert over the weekend but the town narrowly escaped a major incident.

The Environment Agency had warned residents in Harbour Road, The Platt, Eddystone Road, Southern Way, Jubilee Road, Egloshayle and Sladesbridge to be prepared for potential flooding but luckily it did not materialise.

It was a close-run thing at Bradfords Quay when the River Camel rose within a few metres of residential properties and, as our picture shows, with the high spring tide and heavy rain, the river almost reached the top of the arches of the ancient bridge.
