THERE was a superb turnout of 82 boats and more than 130 pupils from schools throughout the county, including Wadebridge, in the Cornwall annual Schools' Regatta Sailing Championships.

The event was organised by Tracey Boyne of Mylor Sailing School and Truro College and took place at Restronguet Sailing Club in Mylor Yacht Harbour.

And Wadebridge boasted an individual winner in Toots Parker, who won the Handicap section.

This year's championships were run in conjunction with the Cornwall Sports Partnership and were part of the Cornwall School Games.

Cornwall was one of nine counties chosen to be part of the School Games for the Olympics, and sailing was one of the chosen sports.

Cornwall Sports Partnership donated all of the medals and a T-shirt for the winners.

The event mainly consists of pupils bringing their own boats, but there are were also many dinghies loaned to enable the youngsters to get on the water.

There were three races in all with classes of Optimists, Pico single handed, Pico double-handed, Toppers, Lasers, Mirrors and Fevas. Truro School retained the overall team trophy.
