A SCORE of surfing Santas painted the Newquay coastline red to raise money for a not-for-profit organisation which supports young people with mental health problems.
More than 20 people donned Santa hats and hit the 7ft waves at Towan Beach, including pro surfer Hannah Harding, former English national surf champion, and Russell Winter, former UK champion.
The event raised £200 for The Wave Project, which provides free surfing courses for young people with mental health difficulties, emotional problems or learning disabilities.
Also taking part were members of the Wave Project Surf Club, such as ten-year-old Kyle Lynch.
The event was dreamed up by local business Adams Surfboards. Hot pasties for the participants were provided free of charge by the Cornish Pasty Company.
Wave Project chief executive Joe Taylor said: "It was a really heart-warming event at this festive time of year. We're really stoked that so many people got into the spirit of things and took part.
"Everyone at the Wave Project would like to offer our thanks to Adams Surf Industries for coming up with the idea and organising the event, which we feel has been a big success."
Adam's surf shop manager Alex Christian, who organised the event, said: "It has been an awesome afternoon."
