STAFF from White River Place shopping centre in St Austell – including the shopping centre's mascot rabbit – pulled on their festive jumpers for a good cause.

Jumpers emblazoned with reindeer, Father Christmases and penguins became the fashion of the day to raise money for the centre's chosen charity, the Merlin MS Centre.

On Friday last week, members of the White River Place management team, the centre's security and cleaning teams and staff at many of its shops and restaurants took part in the Christmas Jumper Day, each donating £1 to the charity.

The Merlin MS Centre, based at Hewas Water just outside St Austell, was chosen by White River Place in November as the charity it would support for the next year.

The shopping centre is also hosting a series of festive fundraising events to support the charity including a Santa's Grotto and as part of White River Place's 12 Days of Christmas, there will also be a Merlin MS Centre charity day this Friday, (Dec 20).

It will see volunteers from Merlin running stalls, family entertainment and the Cornish Back Rub Team offering massages in the Eden Café, with donations from all treatments going to the charity.

Ellie May, from the Merlin MS Centre, said: "We're really pleased that the fundraising is getting off to such a great start, and that everyone at White River Place is being so supportive.

"I hope that people keep donating generously to see Santa in his grotto, and that lots of people come along on Friday to find out more about what we do and join in the festive fun."
