THE MERLIN MS Centre kicked off its festive celebrations with its annual Christmas fair on Saturday.

The event, which organisers described as the best and biggest yet, raised more than £1,400 to help keep the Merlin Centre running.

Marketing and communications manager Ellie May said on Monday that it had been a fantastic day.

"It was a really successful and festive event with lots of positive comments coming our way this morning," she said.

"It raised more than £1,400 for Merlin, which is a great start to our festive fundraising."

The charity, which operates the only centre for people suffering with MS in Cornwall, needs to raise £275,000 each year to meet its running costs.

Over the Christmas period, various events are being held across the county to boost funds.

Trewoon Pantomime, St Austell

Funds from this year's pantomime, which is being presented at Trevarthian Church, will be donated to the Merlin Centre. Performances will take place tonight, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Contact Carla Tucker on 07540 771945 for tickets.

Massages for shoppers, Truro

On Friday, December 6, massage specialists the Cornish Back Rub Company will be providing massages to stressed shoppers in Truro in aid of the Merlin Campaign.

The masseurs will be based at the Fatstock Marquee at Lemon Quay, where Christmas goods will also be on sale in aid of the centre.

Celebrity carol concert, Padstow

Merlin's celebrity carol concert returns to St Petroc's Church in Padstow on Saturday, December 7. The concert starts at 7.30pm. A limited number of tickets, which cost £15 per person, are available from the Merlin Centre by calling 01726 885530.

Time To Thank… A Place To Remember, Merlin

The Merlin MS Centre will hold its Time To Thank… A Place To Remember service from 6pm on Thursday, December 12.

The service, which is open to everyone, gives people the chance to express their gratitude to those who have left a mark on their lives by dedicating a message of thanks which will be placed on a tree at the centre.

You can send in your messages by completing the donation form on the right.

Massages at White River Place, St Austell

On Friday, December 20, the Merlin MS Centre will be at White River Place St Austell, joined again by staff from the Cornish Back Rub Company who will be offering massages. A variety of stalls and attractions will be on offer raising funds for the centre, which is White River Place's charity of the year.
