THREE Cornish Pirates fans are preparing to play for their club at Twickenham after winning a half-time kicking competition run by the title sponsor of the new Greene King IPA Championship.

Martin Luscombe, from Probus, and Peter Webster and Mark Grigg, both from Goonhaven, all secured the chance to live out their ultimate rugby moment after showing off their kicking skills during the club's home match with Bristol.

The trio will form part of a 10-stong Cornish Pirates team that takes on sides from the other 11 Championship clubs, along with special guest teams, during a one-day touch rugby tournament at Twickenham in May.

Martin said: "I'm well used to watching from the stands, but I never thought at my age I'd get the chance to get on the Mennaye Field pitch and have a kick myself - let alone win the chance to play at Twickenham! This is a dream come true, so I'll be training hard to make sure I do the Cornish Pirates proud!"

Martin, Peter, Mark and two others qualified for the challenge following a competition on Greene King IPA's Facebook page. All were rewarded with 48 cans of Greene King IPA as a special memento of their shot at glory.

The three winners will now get the chance to choose a friend to join them in the team, while the other four places will be taken up by club representatives.

Dom South, Greene King Brewing and Brands Marketing Director, said: "As proud sponsors of the Greene King IPA Championship, it's great to be able to offer such a great prize for Cornish Pirates fans. We're keen to see how the team measures up when they play the others at Twickenham at the end of the season."
