STORM FORCE: Huge waves crashed against Mevagissey harbour as the storms hit during high tide over the weekend. Roads became impassable early on Monday morning as water flooded over the harbour wall and into Church Street, Chapel Street and Market Square. But Chris Gilbertson, clerk to the trustees at the Harbour Office, said the flooding was nothing out of the ordinary for Mevagissey. "The water came up right over the harbour front as it does every year when we have spring tides," he said. He advised boat users to stay out of the water during extreme weather. "Just don't go out," he said. For more on the floods across Cornwall, see pages 24 to 27.
