A POLICE OFFICER has been left "shaken" but unharmed after nearly being hit by a car when called to a report of after-hours drinking at St Dennis Football Club.

A hunt is on for the driver who sped off when approached by the police officer on Sunday at about midnight.

Jason Adams, acting inspector, said the police officer arrived at the club and attempted to shine a torch into the ground.

He said: "The driver drove off, narrowly missing him. The officer was not injured in any shape or form but they were shaken."

Other police officers were drafted in to help with an attempt to track down the vehicle but with no success.

Mr Adams said inquiries are ongoing.

"It just demonstrates the hazards officers face on a daily basis," he told the Cornish Guardian.

Mr Adams urged the driver to come forward and be spoken to in relation to the incident.

Anyone with information is being asked to call St Austell police on 101.
