NEWQUAY's Charlotte Cayton-Smith consolidated her position as the top under 20 woman indoors over 800m in the country with another superb run in Cardiff on Sunday.
The 16-year-old Newquay Tretherras School student was already top of the UK Rankings after a stunning debut indoors at the start of the year but in only her third outing on the boards she smashed that time with 2mins 07.80secs.
That carved 1.72secs off her previous best and puts Cayton-Smith almost three seconds quicker than any other runner in the country which augurs well for the England Indoor Championships next month.
"I was really pleased with that run in Cardiff," said Cayton-Smith, who is a member of Cornwall AC.
"The previous week in the London Games I had a shocker but I felt I just couldn't breathe in that race. I felt a lot better in Cardiff and was five seconds ahead of the next girl."
The Newquay-based runner, who last month also won the senior girls' race at the Cornwall Schools' Cross Country Championships, will keep her focus on the indoors and preparing for the England Championships where she will be among the medal contenders.
