A NEW campaign to celebrate and encourage community spirit will be launched in Lostwithiel tomorrow.
The Community South West campaign will be officially launched by BBC TV presenter and adventurer Monty Halls at 2.15pm at the community centre.
The organisers, from insurance company Cornish Mutual, said Mr Halls would be keen to hear from as many people as possible just what made Lostwithiel's community special and the sort of events that regularly brought the people together.
Managing director Alan Goddard said: "We hope Community South West will offer the opportunity for communities to reflect on what community spirit means to them and encourage a continued focus on the benefits and values of strong community spirit, joining in with events and making a difference in their local area."
The campaign will include a competition in which one community from each of Cornwall, Devon, Somerset and Dorset will receive £1,500 to put towards a local event or project.
The organisers are looking to hear inspirational stories of community spirit and just what makes individual towns tick and sets them apart as places with tight bonds.
A panel of judges in each county will shortlist the entries prior to the four winning communities being chosen via a public vote.
The campaign follows in the footsteps of previous Cornish Mutual initiatives Farmsafe, Come Together, Eat Together and Dig Down South West. For more information, go to www.communitysouthwest.co.uk
