NEWQUAY came to a standstill on Friday night as crowds gathered outside the Hotel Victoria to watch the arrival of the Newquay Tretherras Year 11 Prom students.

The highlight of the Year 11 social calendar saw 210 students attend, all dressed in their finest to celebrate the culmination of five years of work at the academy.

A range of fantastic vehicles, ranging from sports cars, fire engines, vintage vehicles and even a Sinclair C5, paraded students towards the hotel entrance for their grand entrance.

Sue Ollerenshaw, head of Year 11, said: "Many students rightly regard the prom as their night, celebrating their time at Tretherras and they really go all out to make it a night to remember.

"Their behaviour was wonderful and made it a very special night, which everyone will look back at with fond memories."

Tom Wheeler and Athena Nicholas were crowned as the 2012 prom king and queen. The red carpet award went to Kayleigh Brown in her spectacular sequined dress.

Head teacher Sue Martin said: "The atmosphere was wonderful, one of the best proms yet.

"We look forward to seeing them again in August when we hope to be celebrating success in their exam results."
