LOSTWITHIEL'S growers and showers delighted the community with a vast display at the annual Garden Society Produce Show.

Society chairman Val Strout said: "We were delighted with the show.

"The weather was a concern but on the day it was very good. The standard was high with the fruit, veg and flowers.

"Everyone has been saying what a lovely show it was, with a great friendly community spirit and atmosphere."

Councillor Gill Parsons, Mayor of Lostwithiel, was on hand to open the ceremony, impressing the adults with her Lostwithiel knowledge and treating the children too.

"Gill did an excellent job of opening," Mrs Strout said. "She had researched the history of Lostwithiel Garden Society, and everyone really appreciated knowing more about it.

"She also had two jubilee coins which she gave to the children who got the most points."

Three local schools received high praise for their contributions from Mrs Strout for St Winnow, Lostwithiel, and Lanlivery. "It is super to see children growing things," she said.

Mrs Strout expressed her thanks to everyone who contributed to the success of the show:"It was great to see everyone mucking in and enjoying doing it at the same time – putting up tables on Friday evening is quite a task.

"My thanks to the people who help, people who enter, people who judge and people who come along to support the show."
