IN a special charity match a Gorran Invitation XI will play a New Zealand XI at Gorran on Sunday (2pm).

Included in the New Zealand team from Cornish clubs are Jimmy Laming (Gorran) who will be captaining the side. Matt O'Leary (Paul), Trent McGrath (Grampound Road), Ben Millar and Michael Perry (Menheniot-Looe), Dallas Poultney (St Newlyn East).

The remaining New Zealand players will be travelling down from clubs in Oxford, Bristol, Torquay, Ipplepen and Bovey Tracey and will be staying in the area overnight.

More than 20 quality raffle prizes have been donated for the event including restaurant meals, go kart racing, hotel accommodation, complimentary golf 4 balls, free entry to some of Cornwall's major attractions.

Nearly all the barbecue food has been donated – duck burgers and scallops are on the menu as well as the usual.

All proceeds will go to The Children's Hospice at Little Harbour and The Canty Kids Trust in New Zealand, for children who suffered through the earthquake in Christchurch.

Female vocalist Bethan Rose, from the popular Cornish band The Harry Peanut Show, will sing The New Zealand, Cornish and UK anthems before the match at 1.30pm. The game itself, 40 overs a side, starts at 2pm. Everyone is very welcome.
