A HUNGRY thief decided to "take away" meat, milk, bottles of wine and some orange juice after breaking into a garage in St Austell.

The items were stolen from the garage in Porthmeor Road, overnight on Friday/Saturday.

Paul Jones, St Austell police's neighbourhood team leader, said the offender had tried several other garages before gaining access.

Mr Jones said: "The message is: make sure outbuildings are locked, especially at this time of the year when the theft of lawn mowers and such like suddenly rise."

Anyone with information is asked to call PCSO Yasmin Street on 101 quoting crime reference number GA/14/698.
