A BODY found in the search for a missing Polperro man has still not been identified.

A search had been launched for Michael John Sanders after he went missing on Wednesday last week.

Police said that Brixham coastguards discovered the body of a man at Talland Bay, near Looe, on Thursday, at around 10am.

Mr Sanders, known as John to his friends and family, had not been seen since leaving his home in the Killigarth area of Polperro.

A spokesman for Brixham coastguard said: "Brixham coastguards were asked to assist in the search for Mr Sanders and they searched from 8.30am for an hour and a half before finding a body.

"The body was found on the rocks after a huge search crew made up of a Royal Navy Culdrose helicopter, Looe coastguard, Polruan coastguard and the coastguard manager."

Devon and Cornwall Police said formal identification has not yet taken place but Mr Sanders' family have been informed. The death is not being treated as suspicious.

Police are appealing to anyone who saw a man in his fifties in the Talland Bay area on Wednesday, February 26, to call police on 101 quoting log 703.
