Fall in new year crime

THIRTEEN fewer crimes were recorded in Newquay this New Year's Eve than last – 8 in comparison to 21 in 2012.

Four drink-related arrests were also made, said Inspector Dave Meredith.

In addition to Newquay response officers, 19 others had been deployed to police the night-time economy, he said. "These officers were a very successful visible deterrent to crime and disorder, and played a major part in keeping the town safe for both residents and visitors.

"Street Safe volunteers were also on duty, along with Street Pastors. I would like express my particular thanks to these volunteers, who did a great job."
