'Elle' of a boost for resort's poster campaign

A CAMPAIGN to raise Newquay's profile received a boost last week when the editor of Elle magazine drew attention to an advert for the resort on the London Underground.

Lorraine Candy, who is originally from Cornwall, posted a photo of the poster on Twitter with the caption saying "Poster on my tube. Homesick."

Featuring the strapline: "I ride to work every day" with a shot of surfer Tom Good and the iconic Headland Hotel, the advert was developed to attract the attention of national and international audiences attending the Olympics.

It was designed by the Newquay Business Improvement District (BID), whose remit is to promote the town, pull in visitors and support its businesses.

BID manager Eve Wooldridge said: "We were obviously really excited about the campaign but the fact that so many prominent people have been firing it out on their personal social media shows just how strong a concept it is.

"The new Newquay brand is certainly making waves in all the right places."

BID's PR company, Excess Energy, recently organised a press trip to the town for Mrs Candy, putting her up at the refurbished Lewinnick Lodge. She was also treated to a surfing lesson by Surfing Is Therapy, at Fistral beach.
