DETECTIVES are hunting a man who terrified an elderly woman in Bodmin and robbed her of cash.

The woman in her eighties was said to be in a state of shock after the robbery at her home in Dennison Road on Tuesday, February 25. Detective Constable Sarah Parkman said the robbery took place around 10pm.

"The male banged repeatedly on the front door of a house and when the resident opened the door, he pushed his way in and stole £160, £40 of which was in loose change.

"He saw the lady's handbag and told her to give him the money that was in her purse. He then forced her to unlock a bureau where there was a quantity of money and he took that too.

"The male then left and walked down the road towards the town centre.

The detective said: "This is a despicable crime committed against an elderly and vulnerable woman, and we are appealing for help from the public as part of our inquires."

The man was described to police as about 5ft 2in, had a slightly chubby build and was wearing a grey or blue hooded top, black padded coat, black trousers and black boots.

Anyone who saw a male fitting the description in the area at around the time of the robbery should phone Bodmin CID on 101 and ask for DC Parkman, quoting BB/14/311.

This "man" does not deserve to be walking the streets and if caught I hope the courts will have the guts to put him away for a good while. This was a despicable crime considering the victim and I hope she is able to recover from this.
