A MAN killed in a multiple collision on the A30 near Bolventor on Sunday, December 22, has been named as Michael Gregson, 63, of Leap Park, Threemilestone, near Truro.
His vehicle was one of three which collided on the eastbound carriageway at just after midday on December 22. Mr Gregson died at the scene. Two occupants of another vehicle travelling eastbound were taken by air ambulance to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth.
Another three vehicles collided on the westbound carriageway but no one was injured. Police believe a hailstorm may have contributed to the accidents.
It was the second fatal collision on the A30 that day, following the death of a man near Launceston.
Sergeant Olly Tayler, senior investigating officer, said: "Both carriageways were closed due to the serious nature of the collision and the horrendous weather conditions.
"The investigation into what caused the collision continues but one line of inquiry is that there was an unexpected exceptional weather event that happened at the time of the collisions in the form of a hail storm."
Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to call police on 101, quoting log 384 of 22/12/13.
