Cyclist, 41, dies at scene of collision on old A30

POLICE are appealing for witnesses after the death of a cyclist following a collision on the old A30 near Lifton in Devon.

The incident occurred at around 4.11pm on Wednesday at Sprytown Cross.

A Citroën Saxo, driven by a man from Launceston, was involved in the collision with a Giant Revel pedal cycle. The cyclist, who has not been named but is aged 41 and from Lifton, was emerging from the give-way line on the northern arm of the crossroads from the direction of Broadwoodwidger with the apparent intention of turning right towards Lifton.

The Citroën was heading in a south-westerly direction on the main road from Lewdown towards Lifton.

The cyclist sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The Citroën driver was treated by ambulance personnel at the scene and then released.

The road was closed for eight hours while a forensic investigation of the scene was carried out.

Police from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information is asked to contact them on 101 quoting 0545 14/08/13.
