POLICE in Launceston have vowed to crack down on drug dealers in the town.

Last Saturday night, officers used a police sniffer dog in an operation targeting licensed premises and seized a quantity of cannabis.

Launceston's neighbourhood policing team was joined by response officers, special constables, and members of the Plymouth Tactical Aid Group in a high-profile operation in the town centre aimed at tackling drug misuse and the supply of drugs.

The operation was led by Launceston town neighbourhood beat manager PC Johnny Haynes. He said residents should be allowed to go out and enjoy themselves in local pubs without drug dealers hindering their evenings.

He said: "The operation's was a high profile activity, with an aim of disrupting the use and supply of illegal drugs within the town over the weekend.

"This operation was aimed at sending a clear message to the people of Launceston that we take drug offending very seriously."

The crackdown was fully supported by licensees and the Launceston Town Pubwatch committee.

It resulted in a number of people being searched and cannabis being seized.

PC Haynes said: "This operation proved a success and, as such, we will be looking at similar operations in the future."

I don't know about household products but the number of people killed and lives ruined by alcohol and tobacco, both perfectly legal, does make a mockery of our drug laws. I know of one person with MS who would be in almost constant pain were it not for cannabis having tried a host of legal prescription drugs that did nothing. The amount of police and court time wasted with cannabis prosecutions can be laid directly at the door of Westminster with their ludicrous stance on cannabis.

Do you know that in the states there has been some serious debate / policy change about the positive side to canabis for many medicial conditions so that now in many states its very easy to get a medical certificate to carry and smoke canabis in public. As we seem to follow whatever the americans do. Canabis will be alowed to be carried and smoked in public in a few years in this country to. This will make a complete mockery of all of the lives that have been runined from unnessesary convictions due to politics driving law making rather than scientific fact and health hazards. Do you know that there has never ever in its 2000+ years of human use, been a death due to the toxitcty of canabis. I wonder how many household products can say that.
