TOWNS and villages across Cornwall were badly affected by floodwater.

In Mevagissey about 35 properties were evacuated and the town's flood group, police and the Plymouth Brethren's Rapid Response swung into action. A rescue centre was set up at Mevagissey School.

Barry Wilton, chairman of Mevagissey Flood Group, and his partner Sharon Gilbert were flooded out of their home in Church Street in 2010.

The 59-year-old claimed although the preventative flood door stopped the water it still managed to seep in between the defence and the building.

He said: "All in all the experience is getting better inasmuch as the community is working together but the on-going problem is getting worse."

For Matt Facey, 42, and Jeremy Roberts, 35, who run the Willow Car Park and Shop, Saturday is the third time in two years water has swept through their businesses.

They estimate the damage to both businesses as between £5,000 and £8,000 this time.

In Newquay a woman narrowly escaped serious injury when a tree fell on her car as strong winds and heavy rain continued to batter Newquay this week.

Quintrell Downs was badly affected and a couple were also lucky to escape being seriously injured on Monday evening after their car rolled down a 15-metre embankment on the A3075 'Big Dipper' near Rejerrah in heavy rain. Firefighters were forced to cut one of the casualties free.

Very good of the members of this "church" to get involved with Charity work but why are they called Plymouth Brethren in this article ? They are really the Exclusive Brethren, who have tried to change their name. Even their new website explains this, "Copyright 2012 Plymouth Brethren (Exclusive Brethren) Christian Church 2012" and the old website which was online till 8th Nov 2012 "theexclusivebrethren.com now redirects to the new one. I wonder why that is ?. I am all in favour of Charity work, but this is a group which does not allow its members to eat with anyone "outside" of its closed group. That includes relatives, family and christians, or non christians. There are people who have left the group who havent seen or been able to visit family members inside it for over 40 years. That does not seem very "Charitable" to me ! Its good they are getting involved in Charity work, but maybe they should resolve the problems they have caused through the practice of "seperation" over the last 40 years, first of all !
