CELEBRITY chef James Tanner is to open a series of food outlets in Looe, creating 40 jobs, the Cornish Guardian can reveal.
Mr Tanner and his brother Chris, who already run the popular Tanners Restaurant in Plymouth, are planning to open a farm shop, street food hut, butchery and a takeaway fish and chip shop on the quay in Looe.
James is well-known for cooking on the TV show Ready Steady Cook and has had guest appearances on Saturday Kitchen. The fish and chip shop, The Catch, is set to open in the summer and will be in the same building as the farm shop and butchery, which will be known as Quayside Fresh, which is set to open in March.
Chris said: "We are looking forward to working with the people of Looe and raising the profile of the area. When the sun is coming out it's ten times better. We have spotted a gap in the market for fresh fruit and vegetables – it's good local produce."
The brothers will use local produce including jams, fresh fish from Looe as well as fresh meat.
The Tanner brothers are also working on producing natural batters for the fish and chip shop.
Chris said that they had the idea of setting up a business in Looe after his parents met there nearly 45 years ago.
"We can celebrate the fact that there's fantastic fish on the doorstep and staff we can use," he said. "I think it's a great little spot – it's a popular place anyway.
"We think it's got great potential and it's crying out for something like this.
"It's going to be a lot of hard work and we have been working on it since around October last year.
"It's something a little bit different and we are looking forward to it."
Edythe Coles, chairman of the South East Cornwall Tourism Association, said: "Every good name promotes us as a good place for eateries; I think it's great.
"It will make Looe a gourmet centre and I'm sure it will be a good attraction."
