POLICE are appealing for information after thieves stole a charity tin from a St Austell shop on New Year's Eve.

Officers say that between 5pm and 6pm they were alerted to a break-in at Cooklands in Aylmer Square. Inspector Tony Joslin said: "They didn't take anything else in the shop.

"They just went up to the till and took the charity tin."

The offenders broke into the shop via the front door causing hundreds of pounds of damage to the lock before making off with the tin, Mr Joslin said.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information which could assist the police is asked to call 101 quoting GA/13/4034.

There really are some sick people out there. It was precisely for offences like this that the stocks were invented but unfortunately we have to look after the human rights even of lowlifes like this.
