A SALTASH man has been arrested and bailed in connection with suspected dangerous chemicals.

A property in Parkway was searched on February 13 by the Royal Navy bomb disposal experts at about 10am.

Police officers discovered some items and chemicals of concern while executing a search warrant.

The Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) examined the items which were not found to be dangerous.

A police spokesman said: "The area was cordoned off as a precaution and EOD remain at the scene while the search continues."

The area was cordoned off as a precaution and the Royal Navy bomb disposal experts remained at the scene while the search continued. Police also attended and cordoned off Church Road and part of Parks Way.

Witnesses reported at least two police vans in the area and a van with 'RN bomb disposal' on the side. Residents were reportedly forbidden from entering their homes in Church Road. One witness who lives nearby said that activity seemed to be surrounding a particular house.

A Ministry of Defence spokeswoman said: "The Southern Dive Unit have been sent to an address in Saltash to assist Devon and Cornwall Police."

A Saltash man has been bailed until June 4.
